Art Competition Details
Welcome to the 2020 Blackstone Gallery Works on paper art prize!  This year’s judges include; artist Lucas Grogan, Senior curator Kim Blunt of Maitland Regional Art Gallery and artist Sally Bourke. The theme this year is ‘BLUE’ to be taken conceptually, literally – how ever you want to take it!  Entries close Sunday, August 30th. The selected  finialists will be featured in an exhibition at Blackstone Gallery 470 Hunter St Newcastle in November 2020.  The overall winner will be announed on 8PM at the exhibition opening and will receive a 4 week solo exhibition at Blackstone Gallery Newcastle with complete sponsorship and $1000 cash.

One entrant will be voted in by the public provided the artist gives permission for their work to be displayed on social media channels leading up to the closing date.

Once entry fee is paid, please email your works for submission, entry receipt, artist statement,  a short bio, c.v and any social media handles ( if you have them, this is to give us things to talk about when discussing and presenting your work  , not because we expect high leverage ) Finalists will be notified mid September 2020 with the finalist exhibition held at Blackstone Gallery Newcastle in Mid November . Images submitted  must be at least 1MB and no more than 10MB and in jpeg format.

This prize is open to Australian and New Zealand residents only.

The entered work must be using the theme BLUE.  The term ‘BLUE’ is to be understood broadly and can be representative in colour, concept, emotion etc

Work must be two dimensional and on a paper sheet ( for example; canvas paper, watercolour paper, yupo paper, cartridge paper, e.t.c)

Selected finalists must deliver their works framed.

All artworks entered by the Artist must be the original work and concept of the Artist. A third party may not enter any works on behalf of an Artist.

All works must be an original. No digital art will be accepted. This excludes photography.

The entered work must be new (completed within the previous 12 months) and be the absolute property of the Artist, and must not have been shown previously or entered in any other competition.

The finished artwork, including the frame, must be no larger than A0.

An Artist may enter a maximum of  up to  3 artworks.

Selection of finalists will be at the discretion of Blackstone Gallery and no correspondance will be entered into the judgement.
