Art Competition Details


Now in its 17th year the 1770 Art Show continues to grow and attract a large and varied range of art. With a prize pool fo over $8000 it has become a much admired competition in Queensland.

The 1770 Art Show has been very important in launching the career of such great Australian artists such as Indigenous artist Chern’ee Sutton whose works are displayed at most major Australian galleries.

The organizers are extremely pleased to annouce the continuing support from Queensland Art/Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) in the form of providing the guest judge for the 2019 art show, this years Judge is Simon Wright, Assistant Director Learning and Public Engagement.

New for 2019 will be the category of Motion/Animation to compliment the existing categories of Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Photography and Textile. As well as the main competition the 1770 Art Show also has a dedicated school project calle the “School Art Project” SAP. This project was instigated in 2014 and now covers 8 local schools and our local state shcool sister school in Pandaamn Pasuruan, East Java. this year the SAP project will be Sculpture.

The 1770 Art show now attracts more than 1500 people over the four days providing a venue for art and artists to interact and make sales. Each year the number of art entries have incresased across all art prize sections.

The Art Show has become an important event in the art community of the Wide Bay and across central Queensland.
