The 2019 Call for Entries is now open for the 19th Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. We invite artists to submit images of their proposed or completed original and freestanding sculptures. The submitted art works must also be non-site specific, three-dimensional and constructed of durable materials up to 80cm in any dimension.
Total prize money for the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize is $24,000, awarded across four categories: the main Acquisitive award ($20,000); Special Commendation award ($2,000); Viewers’ Choice award ($1,000); and Mayor’s Award ($1,000).
Art Competition Details
Established in 2001, the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize attracts strong support from artists, collectors and critics and is the first national prize for an original, freestanding sculpture of up to 80cm in any dimension.
Over 500 entries from Australian and international artists are received annually and approximately 45 finalists’ works are exhibited at the historic Woollahra Council Chambers in Double Bay, Sydney, Australia. Selected by a panel of distinguished judges, the prize pool totals AUD $24,000 over four prizes:
* The Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize – an acquisitive award of $20,000
* The Special Commendation – a non-acquisitive award of $2,000
* The Mayor’s Award – a non-acquisitive award of $1,000
* The Viewers’ Choice – a non-acquisitive award of $1,000
Entries are now open and close July 5 2019. There will be an announcement of finalists in August 2019 and the public exhibition will take place 12 October – 3 November 2019.
Who may enter? Open to anyone around the world
Last year we received more than 660 entries from national and international artists. A total of 48 finalists’ works were presented in the exhibition, with the main award going to New-York based, Sydney-born artist Tim Silver and his work Untitled (When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d 02) Sydney-artist Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran was awarded the Special Commendation award valued at $2,000 and WA/Victorian-based artist Danielle Freakley receiving a special mention. The 2018 Mayors Award was awarded to Lucinda Kirkby.
